Exceptional children: Learners who have special needs

Why schools must make special provision for certain children?
Students have different personalities, background, abilities and needs, so each will learn and retain what meets his needs and is best related to his experience. Now the individuality in education is being given more importance.

Who “exceptional children” are what is being done for them in the schools?
Exceptional children are those who require special attention because they are physically or emotionally handicapped, mentally retarded or intellectually gifted. They are the children who deviate form the normal or average children in mental characteristics, sensory abilities, neuromuscular or physical characteristics, social or emotional behaviour, communication abilities and in multiple handicaps.  This kind of children are separated and given special training (depending on the seriousness of the disability).

The attitude that the exceptional children have towards themselves
The exceptional children think that it is difficult to be independent, they believe that they are incapable of doing anything by themselves, they learn to be helpless, they over accept and exaggerate the severity of their disability. These children also have grudge against the world and some time resist any help to make them better.

Attitude that others have towards exceptional children
It is mostly mixed pity, shame, over protection and rejection. It is not that we can not accept them in normal classroom but how will other children take it.

Damage of labeling and classifying children
Children with special educational needs are called atypical this labeling gives more hindrance than helping them to become better.

Failure, discouragement and over protecting
Usually the feeling of the exceptional children are discouragement because or failure. Though this is the case with them on the other hand we should not become over protecting. It is by making mistakes and struggle they will be able to learn.
